April Time to catch up...........April 15th at last.. some colour in the garden, along with the weeds.. after the long winter, and are we ready for some warm sunny weather. At least we wont have to worry about the snow next year, as we won a recent cash award from Rural Action Yorkshire. We provided a presentation asking for a donation to aquire a gritter and grit, to do our roads ourselves, to enable everyone to get in and out of the village. Our small village of Scackleton were competing with
Hovingham to aquire £2,000 through a voting system which we didnt think was fair at first, comparing the size of each village. But community spirit brought nearly everyone down to the Village Hall to vote. Also we won the cash to re-vamp our telephone kiosk, to paint and use as a childrens library, as we now own it and librarys are closing down everywhere. Hovingham were rewarded with money to train children to play cricket, and get some grit for their gritter. It was valuable lesson to us all, with a bit of effort we can achieve mighty rewards. Scackleton also decided to start our own ACTION GROUP, which we intend to keep up the appearance of our village ourselves as Ryedale District Council have made so many cuts recently and never have the funds to grit our roads and keep us safe like the good old days..? The next big thing on our agenda is the Royal Wedding street party. It is our intention to watch the wedding together (well those who are interested) on the biggest TV in the village, so we can all ooo and aaaah and admire as well as critisize the dress etc.. Then we are going to get OUR marquee put up and feed everyone, and have fun and games for all the children, and have a drink or two and do whatever we can to make it a memorable day, as it's a bank holiday. Things are looking up, we have a keen team who just want to make things tick over quietly and peaceful, safe  and  tidy. I have just had a walk up the village and all I can hear are lambs and birds twittering, its a lovely time of year, our daffodills have been a real picture - just a shame the wind blew them all about and they didnt last so long. Well better go now and get some bunting made..ha ha
